Comments from the 2024 SEPLA (Schools Educators Police Liaison Association) Conference:
- Great presentation and phenomenal points.
- Best presentation of the conference.
- This was a great session for school admin as the scenario is specific to the education setting. I like that the presenter
blended other scenarios in his presentation.
- Dan was excellent and provided excellent information and ideas.
- Good engagement with the class.
- Stellar presentation, different approach then just giving us the story of what happened.
- Amazing presentation and information. Thank you for bringing Dan.
- Excellent presenter.
- What a tragic event, but what amazing lessons we can learn. As an educator, this was great information to take back to my
school to implement better safety protocols should an active shooter enter our school.
- Excellent presenter with new ways to improve response to active shooters.
- Everyone needs this, not just SROs.

This was my second time taking this class (D-RAK) and I took away as much as I did the first time. I tell everyone if they ever have the opportunity to take this training it will be the best one of their career.

I just wanted to take the time out and Thank You for coming to our Department and conducting the training for our Dispatchers. It was truly the best and most impactful training we have received as Dispatchers and everyone that attended the training enjoyed it and gained something from it.
The fact there was an Active Shooter situation in the news at UNLV the day after our training really hit home as well.
I hope that we can make this a standard part of our training going forward here at OSPD.

I just wanted to reach out and share some information with you on an event that happened after you taught the active killer class at Haywood community college that we attended. Roughly a month after the class myself and my partner at work took a call of a male shooting at apartments in the city. We hit the button!!!!!
Officers arrived on scene and were faced with an exchange in gun fire before the subject barricaded himself in his house. 6 hrs later SWAT gassed and entered finding the subject had been wounded in the fire fight. Subject was transported and currently in jail. No officers were hurt.
Point of me reaching out is to say that the training you provided myself and Kyle Snowden those two days kicked in and they believe it allowed us to stay calm throughout the event and allowed the first 15 mins to be as smooth as it could have been.
Thank you for the excellent training that you provided. Best class I have ever had in my 24 years of emergency service work.

I just wanted to thank you again for coming out this week for the class. I have received great feedback and reviews from all of my dispatchers that have now taken this. I will definitely be looking to send the rest of my people/ incoming dispatchers as we move forward as I think this is the most beneficial training they can attend.

I work for the Zionsville Police Department and I am one of the active shooter instructors for my department, I was in the IMPD leadership academy that you presented at last week. I thought your presentation was great and it was a different perspective besides your normal “tactical” response. It definitely got me thinking of what I can do within our department to touch on the topics you taught. With that being said, is it possible to get the video clip of the RAK rep so I can show my admin in hopes I can incorporate the drill into our active shooter workshop?

Be safe on the road and keep running this course! Active killer incidents will continue to increase I’m afraid, which means we have to do a better job of preparing the cops, and you guys are doing just that! I’ve already recommended your course to a lot of cops in Forsyth county.

I wanted to thank you for putting on this training on Monday and Tuesday. In 22 years of working in dispatch and attending numerous hours of in-service training, hands down this has been the most effective training I have ever attended. I am hoping to get all or as many of our Telecommunicators as possible to attend this training.

I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know the training you presented was absolutely wonderful. I wish we could have been there all week. My heart has been so heavy with thoughts of those children and what their families have been through. I took the step this morning and reached out to the principal of the school my children attend and forward the website information to them. I really hope they will look into this and make some changes for the safety of the children in these schools. I just wanted to thank you for your time in teaching us and the knowledge you provided. I hope the next time you're down here in NC we can attend another class, I have fellow employees that are eager to attend and it just makes me feel so good to have encouraged them to want to do better and shave seconds if this situation is to happen. Have a great day!

I just wanted to thank you and Teresa for an outstanding class. It really hit home for me as the spouse of a 4th grade teacher in an urban school. I always knew seconds counted in our business, but you two really brought the message home in a personal and professional manner. I spoke to my Chief on the Wednesday after and told him it was one of the best classes I have ever been to in my 30 years in public safety.
Thank you for all you do.

I took your D-RAK class back in September and was looking to see if there is any way that we could schedule a class at our dispatch center? The four of us that took the class came back and couldn't stop talking about how much we learned and how we need to implement what we learned into our dispatch center.
This is a class that we believe that all dispatchers should take. We would like to give this opportunity to our other co-workers along with the surrounding agencies.

I just wanted to reach out to say I very much appreciated the presentation you and Eric gave last week during the final week of the IMPD Leadership Academy course. Your portion in particular really stressed the necessity for an officer’s humility and compassion which I think is an important message and one that was missing from the overall course. So thank you!

Many thanks for today’s outstanding presentation about the Sandy Hook experience and subsequent investigation. Clearly, your thoughtful, empathetic discussion was a major, new source of information for today’s participants about the impact of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
Your willingness to carefully analyze the critical “lessons learned” and offer specific suggestions to the seminar participants was engaging, practical and supportive. I know that all of us involved with the UNH Center for Advanced Policing join our colleague, UNH Police Chief Mooney in extending our appreciation for today’s important learning experience!
I hope we can continue our contact and explore other opportunities for you to share your timely presentation with students, community and police leaders.
